The BOYCP girls’ tennis team started their season with hard work and sweat that soon paid off. On September 24, the BOYCP girls’ tennis team achieved a second conference. They ended with a winning score of 5-0 against Kelly. This all took place at McKinley Park. As of now, the Lady Bobcats are currently 2-0 in their season. The girls are showing success through their hard work and perseverance. They have come a long way since their last season. Coach Nagle is very proud of her team’s achievements; she hopes to get more competitions in before the season ends. Their goal is to continue to improve as a team mentally and physically. Coach Nagle stated, “Our tennis team has grown drastically in past four years as girls have mastered tennis form strategy.”

The most valuable thing about the tennis team is that the players are extremely supportive and help each other improve. The senior captains, Zaima Torres and Adriana Rueda, have been playing tennis for BOYCP since their freshmen year and have helped to build an engaging community. Adriana Rueda and Mary Chen took the doubles tourney championship this past summer. Being a captain of the tennis team for four years, Zaima Torres has made great self- improvements as a player and a leader. Playing tennis since ten years old has impacted Zaima Torres immensely. “I became more responsible! I think playing tennis has really helped me grow, it has made me more of a helpful person, and it has shaped me to build on having leadership qualities.” Sports can greatly impact a student’s’ personality and broaden their interests.
