With summer right around the corner, many students are in desperate need of the break from homework and are ready to relax. With teenagers and kids out of school, Hollywood makes sure it puts out some of the best action blockbusters to reel in all the cash at the domestic box-office.

Now, due to Marvel’s success, DC comics is trying to mimic Marvel’s onscreen formula of adapting famous comic issues into full feature lengths. With only two movies under their belt, DC is attempting to jump the boat by releasing a number of projects in the upcoming months. This year’s next addition will be none other than Suicide Squad starring Jared Leto, Margot Robbie, and Will Smith taking lead roles.

However, many have no clue as to who they are and no one can blame them. DC seems to be doing what Marvel did with 2014’s Guardians of the Galaxy, get the world’s most obscure comic team and turn them into a summer blockbuster that, hopefully, spawns a franchise. Leading up to the release of the film, fans became eager with excitement when the controversial remodel of the Joker was shown in last year’s Comic-Con trailer sparking the interest of many.

Now you may wonder, who is the Suicide Squad? Well simply put, they are a group of imprisoned supervillains ordered by a secret government agency to execute dangerous black ops missions in exchange for mercy. The group consists of villains who die-hard DC fans may only know, but this shouldn’t stop anyone from seeing this film considering that Ben Affleck will also return as the caped crusader: Batman. DC is hoping this film becomes a huge box-office success after the disappointing reception of Batman v. Superman earlier this year. Many complained that the tone of the film was too serious and many found that Jesse Eisenberg’s role as Lex Luthor was rather disappointing and lacking character development. This ultimately made many lose interest in the villain. Due to fan concerns with the finished product of BvS, re-shoots were ordered for Suicide Squad claiming that there was an addition of more elaborate action and comedic sequences.

With early reviews consisting of only praise, it appears this movie will be a must see summer experience without a doubt. Suicide Squad hits theaters August 5, 2016.
