There’s always two main issues when deciding to get a school lunch or homemade lunch: time and taste. For students who like to take account of their likes and dislikes, they always sacrifice their sleeping time to make a packed lunch in the early morning. However, waiting a long line in order to get lunch from the school cafeteria is also time consuming. So, how should students make their choices?
Annually, CPS serves approximately 43 million healthy, well-balanced meals and snacks to support student’s extended day while attending school. More than 72 percent of students receive free lunch or reduce price. For students who qualify for free lunch, it is more beneficial for them to saving budget.
According to CPS meal rate, student lunches cost $3.50. Compared to homemade lunch CPS meals seem to be cheaper. Imagine that you cook your own lunch at home everyday, you will have to spend more money on gas fees, electricity fees, and food. For students who struggle with managing their time, getting a school lunch saves them time from rushing a packed lunch in the early morning.
“Lunch time is the time where you eat and enjoy your free time,” the students’ website reported. “It’s supposed to be the place where students get the best healthy lunches like salads, sandwiches, fresh fruits, etc.” According to the CPS menu, high calories and high fat contain foods have offered to students everyday. Pizzas, chicken patties, and chicken nuggets usually served in fast food restaurant have become our main dishes everyday. For students who enjoy the taste and nutrition of their meals, the school lunch seem to be out of student’s choice.
