On June 26, 2015 the Supreme Court passed the same-sex marriage law which allows same-sex couples to legally marry in all states. Although the law brought some hope to the LGBT community, it was still not the end of discrimination towards this group.
Networks such as CPS, have allowed people to use whichever bathroom fits their gender identity. After visiting The Blaze website, The Maroon found that CPS guidelines states, “Individuals … shall have access to restrooms and locker rooms corresponding to their gender identity. Any individual who has a desire for increased privacy, regardless of the underlying reason, shall be provided access to a single-stall restroom.” CPS has given a solution for people who are uncomfortable with the new conduct, but there are still some debates on whether or not it should be applied.
Although new changes have brought positive opportunities for transgender people, others outside of the community have shared different opinions about it. Some comments have been made about how people can take advantage of the privilege which would be a safety concern for public restroom users and how genuine people are about their change of gender. These actions will harm the way society views transgender people.
Some states have decided to take actions using a lawsuit as an attempt to end the dispute.
According to the Daily Caller, “Several states and school districts have gotten onboard with the suit, setting the stage for a legal battle that could have huge implications for transgender legal issues.” Hopefully in the future, all fifty states will allow the transgender community to pee peacefully.
