This May marks a historical moment in BOYCP history as our school will hold its very first school play!

Directed by our theatre teacher, Mrs. D’Agostino, Almost, Maine is a play filled with humor, sadness, suspense and mystery. The play consists of seven scenes, each exploring the themes of love and relationships. Each of the scenes takes place in a different location and has a different storyline.

Mrs. D’Agostino and her eleven actors are hard at work rehearsing everyday from 3:45 to 5:30 in order to ensure that the play is a success. Some of the actors and actresses have even taken two parts!

It’s not like it’s easy to be an actor either. Rehearsal is very fast paced and lively. Like any other play, students had to audition in order to receive a role. The actors had to show that they are capable of improvising, memorizing many lines, and becoming a whole new character. They also had to show that they were open to receive helpful criticism.

But, it is not only the actors that work hard. There are three stage crew members and the manager of this production, Juliana Ramos. “I’m one of the youngest here,” said Juliana. “I get to boss people around and that’s always fun.” Being the glue that holds the play together, Juliana and the stage crew are in charge of making sure that everything goes smoothly and just as they plan. From music and lighting to helping an actor with their lines, it is evident that they have an important part to play themselves. The dedication of the manager and crew members proves that the work done behind the scenes is crucial to the actors’ performances on stage.

Like the actors, the stage crew had to show Mrs. D’Agostino that they could do what will be needed to be done. In order to become part of the stage crew, students had to apply.

Opening day is on May 20th at 7:00 pm and it is conveniently located on our school’s stage. There will also be a second showing on May 21st at 2:00 pm. Be sure to attend and witness school history!
