The wrestling program at BOYCP started four years ago with the help of the head coach, Ryan Blumberg. Throughout the last four years, members of the wrestling team have developed their physical maturities and knowledge of the sport.

Wrestling is a combat sport. Wrestlers use different strategies and tactics to pin down their opponents for at least two seconds. Wrestling is definitely a rare sport to most members of the community. Wrestling can be a difficult adjustment, especially with the strict diets and new strategies to learn.

When asked how new members are adjusting to the sport, Coach Blumberg said, “the new wrestlers are KILLING it so far… Coach D’Agostino and MacDonald have been working really hard with the new guys teaching them all the techniques of wrestling. All the new guys have been working their butts off, and I’m really excited to see what they will bring to our team this season.”

The coaches are pushing both returning members and new members towards achieving many goals. The team is not only planning to become both regional and city champions, but they are also planning to place wrestlers at state. Aside from the coaches, varsity members take their time to teach new members and correct them when they make a mistake.

Coach Blumberg said, “wrestling is a very individual sport, but as a team, we’re a family… Without that extra drive from your teammates, you’ll never get to the level you need to be at to compete for a state title.”
