Back of The Yards College Prep contains an abundance of sports in which many students grow passionately towards. To many girls at BOYCP, basketball is one of them. The girls’ basketball program is led by head coach, Ms. Maxwell. As her third year of coaching, she is in hopes that the program as a whole competes with full potential. Many of the girls have conditioned over the summer and participated in summer leagues awaiting this season.
Dedication is vital for the team. The girls show their dedication by attending practice nearly every day after school for about two and a half hours. Coach Maxwell believes that her team will accomplish so much this season due to the girls’ effort and ability to play basketball. When asked on what inspires Coach Maxwell to make the best out of both varsity and JV, she states, “that it’s the opportunity to play basketball at this school that these girls have which strikes an impact on their lives. It can lead to scholarships or possibly a professional career playing the sport itself.” She also enjoys the fact that the girls have fun playing something that in which they base a lifestyle off of.
As many people know, in sports, bonds are developed. The girls’ basketball team has a bond of their own. They frequently spend time together at practice and conditioning which builds a bond worth talking about. Not only did they create a bond, but they also created their own set of rules which is different from any other sports. This allows Coach Maxwell to develop trust among her and her players. The trust that is shared between the players and the coach only makes the bond stronger in the way that it allows the team members to know that they have full support from their coach.
