When we hear the word, “insecurities” we immediately think about women. Can we assume men are afraid of getting judged because men’s roles are to not express themselves? Are they too “macho”? Male insecurity is a topic with a light rarely shined on it. Not caring about your image was once a manly quality, and caring is one that women are portrayed to do the most. We interviewed Mr. Rubio and Jorge Zavala on their opinion about the role society plays and how male insecurities compare women’s.
To understand this more clearly, we created two surveys, one for men in the school and one for men outside of the school. When asked if there are any physical features they would change, 68.7% of men at BOYCP said yes while 76.7% of men outside of BOYCP said yes. We asked what physical feature they hated the most about themselves and for both surveys the most responded answer was: body image. Guys, don’t think you’re ugly, embrace your uniqueness.
| Q: Do male insecurities differentiate from female insecurities?
A: Mr.Rubio-“I don’t think there is much of a difference between females and males, but we will always have insecurities about the way we look, our physical aspects. It’s different forms of beauty.” A: Mr.Rubio- “ Yeah totally, you have to look at the advertisements, and everything around. It’s hard to see a hollywood star nowadays that isn’t [dealing] with “beauty”. |
| Q: Do male insecurities differentiate from female insecurities?
A: Jorge- “Yes because men tend to be insecure of their bodies, and women are mainly insecure about how they look with or without make up, their body, and how they’re dressed.” A: Jorge- “Yes because people tend to try to resemble the icon or celebrity they look up to” |
