How is your 2015-16 year going so far as a freshman? As a sophomore? As a junior? Do you feel stressed? Tired? Bored? Irritated?

If so, here are solutions to all your problems! Here are some things to guide you through your year(s) throughout high school:

  • Challenge Yourself!

Although having easy classes and no homework every day may seem like an awesome thing for you, think twice. If you feel you could use an extra push, don’t be afraid to take a chance and approach higher classes. You shouldn’t settle for less. You’ll benefit much more! The classes will not only help you get into a great college but it will look great on resumes, applications, etc. High school is about taking chances and trying new things!

  • Make Your Experience Fun!

High school is all about enjoying and making the best of your experience throughout your four years. The things you do in high school will later come up and you should be able to look back on all the good times you had. You should make the best of the time you have because it goes by extremely fast! Ask anyone and they will certainly tell you how fast the time goes by.

  • Get Involved!

Joining clubs, sports or any other after school activities that may interest you, is the best way to make your high school experience more enjoyable. Along with having fun and trying out different clubs, you meet different people and will create friendships throughout this time. There are many afterschool activities that are not known of, but you can read your school newspaper every month to find out what clubs are offered and what is going on within them.

  • Student Survival at BOYCP

-How are you surviving high school?

Nanci Lopez (Freshman): “I am surviving high school by time managing and staying on top of my classes. I also study with my teachers during my lunch period or I use that time to complete my work. Spending time with friends and being in sports helps me relieve stress as well.”

Kelvin Valentin (Sophomore): “It’s stressful, but being in three sports really helps me relieve stress. It’s hard but with the help of my counselors, parents, friends, and teachers, it’s much easier than what you expect.”

Yessenia Hernandez (Junior): “Many doors have been opened to me since freshman year like the Northwestern Scholar Program, which was introduced to me with the idea of volunteering within my school and finding other ways to get involved in other communities.”

-Were you given any advice? If so, what was it? Did you take the advice given to you?

Nanci Lopez (Freshman): “Yes. It was to focus and put boys aside, but also continue to be myself. So far most of it I have taken.”

Kelvin Valentin (Sophomore): “Yes. My parents, as well as my counselors, told me to get involved in as many things as I could because it looks good on my resume. I’m in three sports and math club, but also receiving all A’s while doing these things. I took the advice into consideration and actually took it because it has gotten me very far.”

Yessenia Hernandez (Junior): “Yes. Mr. Salinas told me, ‘If you believe in yourself and want to do whatever you want to do just apply the work, then do it!’ Also my dad, ‘If you believe you can then do it!’ You just believe in yourself. Yea of course.”
