In basketball, teamwork is very important. Teamwork allows the group to function as one rather than individuals. Teamwork is the essential key to achieving success, without it, the boys would not be crushing the current season. When it comes to playing on the court, the boys all have one common goal, to win. The players on the team are aware of their skills, and they all know that to win, they cannot dominate the court by themselves. To succeed, they all need to help and communicate with each other.
When asking the boys about teamwork they talked about motivating one another. Not only on the court, but also at school and with personal situations. This unity shows that the players on the team are very supportive of each other and want to see each other continue growing. Although the boys’ basketball team is split up into varsity and junior varsity, the team still acts as if they are one and equal. Basketball has helped them form a brotherly bond with each other.
Teamwork is not only about the players, but it is also about the coaches. The coaches are part of the team and help keep the boys together. When senior, team member, Peyton Hutchins, was asked about things that have helped the team improve, he said, “The coaches, they get on us as a team about being fundamentally sound. We’ve taken pride in learning the basics; I believe that’s how you build great athletes.” Mr. Gorney, Mr. McNamara, and Mr. Smith are a very important part of the team because they are the foundation. They encourage the players to show humility, professionalism, and sportsmanship. The coaches keep the team intact. The team looks to them for guidance when in need.
