Swimming is a competitive sport. Swimmers have to strengthen themselves in the pool to beat their opponents. The BOYCP boys’ swimming team wins by trying to receive the lowest time. Time is a crucial part of competitions’ outcomes because the difference within a second determines which swimmer comes in first place and which comes in second.
Swimming is also a life lesson that helps motivate individuals growth both physically and mentally. Without a strong mentality, the swimmers are unable to improve physically. Therefore, having a positive mindset helps the boys succeed as a team. The boys improve their performances and support each other at practices and swim meets. When asked about his individual growth, senior, Marco Jimenez, stated, “swimming has help me grow. I try to push myself harder and harder. It helped me be more mentally strong.” Swimming requires exceptional physical endurance, so the swimmers need to have confidence in their abilities to reach their aspirations.
The boys’ goal is to assure that their hard work pays off. They want to be recognized for the work they do, just like any other sport. Not only do the boys hold themselves to high expectations in the pool, but they also want to show how swimming positively affects their personal lives. When asked about the swimmers’ goal, junior, Isaac Romo, stated, “Our goal is to make sure we put swimming on the map because swimming is the most underweighted sport in our school. If you go to a football game, we could see the whole stand filled up, but swimming is not like that because people don’t see the dedication and effort that we put in the sport.”
Overall, the swim team’s goal is to not only beat their opponents and improve individual times, but also to show the importance of swimming and Bobcat spirit!
