Marvel Studios has found success with its cinematic universe reigning at the domestic box office. With the wave of superhero films slowly creeping their way towards theaters, there have been a number of comic book enthusiasts who are eager to know if the films will follow their comic book counterparts.
Captain America is one of the more popular superheroes to hit the silver screen in a long time, with fans craving the Captain’s arrival since the first Iron Man film hit theaters back in 2008. Now with the visually captivating sequel to the 2011 film heading its way to theaters this May, the stakes have never been higher since the announcement of the film’s title, Captain America: Civil War.
The film’s title captivated audiences worldwide since it borrows the Mark Millar comic series name which ran from 2006-2007 in which all superheroes are forced to pick sides and fight alongside Captain America or Iron-Man. Slowly, leading up to the release more secrets have been revealed through trailers and T.V. spots enticing audiences even more; however, some have noted the lack of superheroes leading many to suspect that the film will be a loose adaptation of its comic book counterpart. The evolution of the comic book into its movie alter-ego has taken many iterations, but this summer will be a chance for Marvel to bring all of their learnings together to captivate their audience.
Although the cast is much bigger than last year’s Avengers: Age of Ultron, which includes familiar faces such as Spider-Man and Iron Man alongside new faces Black Panther and Ant-Man, fans are rather disappointed that it is not as huge as depicted in the comics. This is mostly due to the film’s already high budget.
As jokingly mentioned in the 2016 film Deadpool, studios do not produce these cgi heavy films for free. Whatever the case is, Marvel has yet to disappoint fans with any comic adaptation they have put out since 2008.
