The winter sports season is coming to an end, and the wrestling team has had many victories. Some of these victories include finishing 2nd out of 22 teams at the Dunbar Holiday tournament, with Adrian Magana and Carl McNickles finishing 1st place; and finishing 3rd out of 28 teams at the Freshman/Sophomore CPS tournament, with Brandon Crittendon, Keshawn Brown, Kevin Pacheco finishing first place, and Brian Martinez finishing 5th. Varsity team members Carl McNickles and Adrian Magana placed 2nd and 3rd in the CPS City Championship.

Coach Blumberg states, “Having a space that we could call our own was important to us because wrestling is a sport that you cannot take days off from. I always tell the guys, ‘We never stay the same.  You are either getting better or getting worse…which are you being today?’.” Besides their many accomplishments, the team’s practice location has moved from the stage to the north-end of the third floor. This benefits the team due to a large amount of space for setting up wrestling mats.

The team is no longer required to share their space with other sports teams like they did on the stage. Practicing on the stage led to days where the team was not able to practice on mats. Although practicing on the third floor has some minor distractions, like people passing by, the wrestlers are able to stay focused and working hard.

Another big impact of the team’s new practice space is the temperature. The warm temperature allows wrestlers to get a good sweat during practice, which allows them to lose a pound or two.

The new practice space might be beneficial for the team, but not for our noses… Just kidding! We love you all, and keep up the fantastic work!
