The explosion of the Broadway Musical Hamilton caught the attention of thousands of people, including our very own Bobcats. Hamilton is a musical based on the life of Alexander Hamilton, filled with amazing music and storytelling. The original three-hour show will be shrunken down into a one-hour production by the BOYCP choir.
The casting process was difficult for the director, Mr. Morrow, as he had to pick thirteen people out of the many that came out for auditions. Out of those special thirteen, four women were cast for characters originally played by men; one of them even earning the lead. According to Mr. Morrow, he was looking for people with great enthusiasm and the ability to “show vulnerability but also confidence” for their individual roles.
The lead role of Alexander Hamilton was ultimately given to the very talented Alma Sigala. In an interview with Alma, she passionately recited why she wanted to play Hamilton stating, “He seemed like someone I could relate to. He just never shuts up, and I never shut up”.
A Taste of Broadway: Hamilton, has begun rehearsals. According to Ulises Villa, who will play the part of Aaron Burr, “The choir director is always expecting us to be on the level where we already know the parts because we listen to it so avidly. Even if we don’t know the part, he already knows we’re going to take initiative out of choir rehearsals and class”.
Performing is not an easy task. The hard work and dedication imputed into this show by the bobcat choir will show that there are incredibly talented individuals at Back of the Yards. A Taste of Broadway: Hamilton will be premiering on April 27. This is an event you will not want to miss.
