February is the beginning of a new semester. Meaning that there will be a new season for spring sports. Many sport teams are starting to condition and work hard toward to their intended goals.
According to Coach Rook, the season goal for the girls’ soccer team will be to remain undefeated in all of their conference games. The postseason goal will be to be Regional Champions. In order to reach their goal, Coach Rook plans to have competitions with top division opponents. Coach Rook schedules top division teams as opponents because he wants the girls to develop their skills and prepare for difficult games. In addition, Coach Rook stated, “for us to be successful, all players must communicate effectively with their teammates. That way, everybody knows where to be and understands how we will score or defend as a team.” Mr. Rook is going to work with his team in order to help them become better communicators.
The boys’ volleyball team will start their condition earlier this year in order to focus on skill development. The boys’ volleyball team won their conference last year; however, Coach Wu hopes the boys’ volleyball team can do better this year. She is hoping the team wins all conference games. This will be the first year the boys’ volleyball team has two teams, Junior Varsity and Varsity.
In this upcoming season, the girls’ softball team plans to win their conference once again; this will make it three years in a row. The girls’ softball team will have the opportunity to move up to the next level if they reach their goal. Incase you were unaware, the girls’ softball team will have four coaches now! They will each be taking the lead on different aspect. This organization will make the team work together and become stronger.
Boys’ tennis club will start this semester in BOYCP. It runs as a club due to the fact that boys’ tennis is not a registered sport. Mr. Ponce mentioned that boys’ tennis club will teach the basics of the sport. Mr. Ponce stated, “my goal is to use the short amount of time we have in an efficient way so that we learn a new skill every day”.
