Spring is coming, meaning the winter sports are over. How did the winter sports end? Let us Recap!
The boys’ wrestling team ended its season 18-5. Mr. Blumberg felt as if the team faced one specific challenge which was “having to start with such a young group of guys on Varsity level”. The most exciting moment for the wrestling team was having six wrestlers qualify for sectionals. At sectionals, the spotlight was on Carl McNickles and Adrian Magana due to their outstanding performance.
The boys’ swim team ended with a record of 2-7. The boys started the season in a new conference with stronger competition. Even while facing new obstacles, the boys were able to improve their times. The boys suffered close defeats, sometimes only losing by one point! The boys ended the season moving up a conference.
The boys’ basketball team went 15-8; this is the most wins the basketball team has achieved. Coach Gorney felt that challenges were presented when going against teams that were “bigger than us, faster than us, [and] more experienced than us at basketball”. The boys continued to practice and make improvements to their skills throughout the season.
The girls’ basketball team ended with a record of 13-11 and sent Captain Rosa Macias to the ISU for a state-level three-point competition made it to State. At the end of the season, the girls did a lot of team bonding by going out to eat and throwing a pool party. What a great end to the season!
This year was the cheer squad’s first year in competition, and they became City Champions! The coaches are very proud of their girls, and they are already preparing for the next season. The coaches would like to shine a light on, Senior, Maria Macias. According to the coaches, Macias always goes “above and beyond to help the team and is a senior we will miss!” Congratulations Girls!
