The Daizu is one of the many minority groups in China. They have a special holiday named Water-Sprinkling Festival. It is a day when people gather to splash water on each other. Water-Sprinkling Festival is on April 13, most of the time it lasts for three to seven days. It is known as New Year in Daizu. The origin of this festival comes from a religion in India so Water-Sprinkling can be considered a religious belief to the Daizu people.
This festival happens because it is a way to bless people and the world. It is a way to literally and figuratively wash away disease and disaster from people. People usually wear their traditional clothing during Water-Sprinkling.
Traditional clothing is a representation of the minority circumstance. Daizu is known as a group with clothing that is traditional in some communities in China.
Water-Sprinkling Festival is thought to bring happiness and luck to everyone. In addition, there are many special activities that often take place during the festival. These can include dragon boats, launching traditional lanterns, and cockfighting events. The event also includes food, such as rice cakes and other traditional foods.
Even though it is not a popular festival, it is significant to the religion of Daizu community. It is a day that Daizu people must celebrate their own New Years and rebirth.
In today’s world, most people forget about the minorities in their country, which is not surprising because minorities live in the countryside in China, far away from the city. This is very similar to the United States. People should pay attention to the beautiful festivals within their countries as they happen all over this vast land!
