A team cannot succeed without communication. A team that works together can achieve more than an individual can. Communication helps people understand one another in various situations; it helps individuals bond with one another, creates relationships, and motivates people to do their best. Communication is vital when it comes to girls’ water polo due to the complexity of the sport. Despite this, the team stays strong by motivating each other.

It is the second year of girls’ water polo, and the girls are determined to have a great season, starting off the season with 6 wins and 4 losses. They are constantly motivated by each other and their coach, Mr. Hoyte. Mr. Hoyte constantly reminds the girls to stay mentally and physically strong during games; he also reminds them that their goal is to win and do their best because that is all that matters. Not only does the team motivate each other in the pool, but they also motivate one another outside of the pool.

At first, the team struggled with working as a whole. According to Leea Rodriguez, “We did struggle with working as a whole because everyone kind of wanted to do their own thing, but as time went by, we’ve gotten better and fixed it along the way.” The girls were not as efficient with communicating with one another; however, according to Leea, they are improving, “during a game we mainly communicate by yelling each other’s names and we remind each other of what we’re trying to do or how to fix the flaws being made during a game.” The team’s continuous improvement and positive interactions can be seen during their games.
