The definition of “fashion” and “style” is just like the Chicago weather it changes every day depending on who you surround yourself with. Satisfying the most amount of people is complicated due to the number of social groups that exist within a community. Growing up in a big city, I discovered that within a culture group lies a subculture group.

As an adolescent, I try being open-minded and accept that everyone has a different opinion on what is considered trendy or fashionable, even if it becomes a challenge once in awhile. In this world, we learn to label as many things as possible, including humans. We label based on interests, looks, and ideas. Up to this day, when individuals ask me to describe myself, I hesitate, knowing that I struggle to use one word to summarize who I am.

One thing I do know is that today’s fashion walks are completely ridiculous. If one paid attention to the cost of attires displayed in the shows, they would be surprised. It is absurd how much a shirt costs just because it possesses a Dior label. Take Kanye West’s Yeezy brand, for example, a distressed, wool-blend pullover has a value of $750. In my opinion, you can walk into a thrift store and find an appealing outfit for a more affordable price.

Even though I disagree with popular society and its viewpoint in regards to what is modern day vogue, I still understand that we are all unique and special- and we should all be free to express that.
