Recently, our very own cafeteria won the school award for Nutrition Support Services, and our lunch lady, Bridgette Mirabella, won the School Dining Manager of the Year award from CPS schools. This award is presented to the best school pertaining lunch menu and staff. “That’s a great accomplishment. We got [a] great staff”, Bridgette Mirabella stated. When asked “how is
a school nominated for such an award?”, Bridgette responded, “Somebody at CPS. We didn’t even know we were nominated. Until the end of the meeting [we went to] and they announced our names..” I then asked, “How has winning the school awards help you better yourself for the students’ lunch?”. Bridgette responded, “I don’t know if it bettered us because we do what we do every day, and I like what we do every day. I mean, we love to do what we do.”
During the interview, The Maroon discovered that BOYCP was nominated to be the first school to have flavored milk in the cafeteria. When asked about this, Bridgette replied, “we have these visitors come in from the local milk council, and they picked us [for the milk pilot]. We don’t know when, but when you guys come back next year, we should have more flavors of milk. We’re looking at flavors like strawberry, vanilla, or banana.” This pilot is a great accomplishment and recognition for BOYCP. Thankfully, Bridgette offered insight on the school award since, unfortunately, CPS was unable to be reached. Clearly, our cafeteria is among one of the best in CPS, and BOYCP students should be very proud of our amazing cafeteria staff.
