As days pass by, the Seniors are preparing to graduate. In the world of sports at BOYCP this means that athletic Seniors are also preparing for Senior nights. These nights tend to remind us that due to academic growth, teams will lose some of their players. As for the girls’ soccer team, this leaves them with one question, what will they do in order to maintain themselves undefeated?

Coach Rook states, “our seniors will be greatly missed. Each of them has made a huge impact on the program over the last four years. In order to continue our success next season, we will have to improve our consistency. There will be few easy matches next season so there will be little room for error.

At the same time, the soccer players and the coaches are trying to develop as a team in order to face their personal weaknesses. Therefore, Coach Rook stated, “ [we need] to improve as a team. We need every player to be a good dribbler and an efficient passer.”

However, Vanessa Lopez, a Senior soccer player, has a different perspective about team weaknesses. She says, “one of the weaknesses of our team is that we always tend to argue with each other. One way that we have settled our differences is by having team activities such as eating elotes together and bonding over food. However, I truly believe that we need to discuss the issues. For example, we can have the coaches address it directly rather than to speak about it blurrily.” It is a sign of a mature team that they ask for this help.

The girls’ soccer team has a great record due to their ability to talk about problems. There may be many things that they need to work on, but all the girls and coaches appreciate one another. Even though this year ended earlier than they wanted with a 2-0 defeat, we can rest assured that they are already planning on coming on strong next year.
